“What’s the need for such barbarity…” ‘Iron Lady’ Irom Sharmila appeals for peace in Manipur

Known for her 16-year-long fast to demand repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, ‘Iron Lady of Manipur’ Irom Sharmila appealed for peace in the conflict-torn state, days after the viral video showing two women being paraded naked by a mob sent shockwaves across the country. “We are all human beings. What is the need for such hatred and barbarity? We can’t take anything from this world when we die. As long as we are living, we are living with each other in harmony as we are social animals,” said Irom Sharmila while talking to ANI. The civil rights activist also urged PM Modi’s “right approached” intervention to restore peace in Manipur. Police said that total of six arrests have been made so far in the incident which occurred on May 4,2023. In this regard, the official media handle of Manipur Police took to Twitter and said, "6 (six) including 1 (one) Juvenile Arrested/Apprehended. In regard to the viral video of 2 (two) women on May 4, 2023, another accused was arrested today. Altogether 6 (six) persons including 5 (five) main accused and one juvenile have been arrested and apprehended in the case so far. "Police said that it is making all-out effort to arrest the remaining culprits by conducting raids at many suspected hideouts.
