Manipur Horror sparks outrage; Is it time for CM N Biren Singh to step down?

India is in a state of shock after the horrific video from violence-hit Manipur went viral. Gut-wrenching video triggered massive outrage and also raised several questions for the state government. Opposition leaders of various parties demanded CM Biren Singh’s resignation, President’s rule in Manipur. Earlier on June 30, Manipur CM tendered his resignation to State Governor; however, he later decided to revoke his decision after the dramatic turn of events in Imphal. Meanwhile, PM Modi expressed his anger over the Manipur viral video and said, “Culprits won’t be spared.” Soon after PM Modi’s remark, CM Biren Singh's assurance, the main culprit was arrested on July 20. The main culprit has been identified as 32-year-old Huirem Herodas Meitei of Pechi Awang Leikai. Meanwhile, several workers from different political parties held massive protests across the nation. Manipur has been witnessing ethnic violence since May after Kukis protested Meitei community's demand for a ST status.
