Maharashtra: IAF in action to rescue people stranded at Yavatmal amid heavy downpour

Many parts of Maharashtra’s Yavatmal have been witnessing heavy rains since July 21, which led to severe waterlogging in several areas. Houses and roads were submerged in water due to incessant rain. Many people are stranded in floods amid heavy rainfall at the Anand Nagar village in Mahagaon taluka of Yavatmal. Indian Air Force and SDRF on July 22 started operations to rescue the stranded people. IAF deployed two helicopters to rescue the people, meanwhile, SDRF deployed boats. “Rescue operation was going on since morning. 32 people have been rescued for now from the Anand Nagar area. All of them have been shifted to the safe area,” said YavatmalDySPVinayakKote. The heavy rainfall in the area inundated houses and forced people to take refuge at higher places. Earlier on July 21, train services in Mumbai and adjoining areas were disrupted following waterlogging due to heavy rains in Maharashtra.
