Centre to refer Manipur viral video case to CBI; appeals SC for trial outside state

The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to refer the Manipur viral video case to Central Bureau of Investigation, said sources to ANI. The Central government will also file affidavit in Supreme Court requesting the trial of viral video case to take place outside Manipur. Notably, this comes following the arrest of seventh arrest in the petrifying case that jolted the entire nation. Meanwhile, as per top govt sources, State Police has nabbed the person who shot the viral video and seized the mobile phone. As per sources, Centre also held several rounds of talks with members of the Kuki and Meitei communities. The government sources also told that law and order situation is improving in the ethnic-clash-hit state. Meanwhile, the Parliament continues to witness massive uproar from Opposition, seeking PM Modi’s comprehensive statement. A 2-month-old video, showcasing two women being paraded naked went viral on social media, sparking massive nationwide outrage. Manipur has been witnessing ethnic violence since early May after Kukis protested Meitei community's demand for ST status.
