‘Operation Kaveri’: First batch of stranded Indians leave war-torn Sudan for Jeddah

Operation Kaveri’ begins for the return of Indians stranded in Sudan. The first batch of 278 Indian stranded left war-torn Sudan on board INS Sumedha under ‘Operation Kaveri’. Taking to Twitter, MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the ship departed port of Sudan for Jeddah. India on April 24 launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ to bring its national from war-torn Sudan MEA on April 23 shared that India has sent two heavy-lift aircraft to Saudi Arabia and a ship to the coast of Sudan. Notably on April 21, the Indian Govt has said that it was focusing on the safety of over 3,000 Indian citizens. Sudan has been witnessing fierce fighting following a power struggle between the Army and Paramilitary forces. Fight between Sudan’s Army and Paramilitary groups for the past 12 days has reportedly left more than 400 people dead.
