Three consecutive earthquakes jolt Turkey, Syria; Death toll rises to 2,200

A powerful earthquake of 6.0 magnitude rocked parts of Turkey, war-ravaged Syria on February 06. It is third consecutive earthquake of such intensive magnitude which led to toppling of major buildings resulting in death of thousands. The first earthquake which rocked Turkey and Syria was of 7.8 magnitude followed by another earthquake of 7.5 magnitude. The death toll after the third powerful earthquake rose to 2,200, and more than 8,000 people are reportedly injured. Thousands are still believed to be trapped under debris as rescue operations are underway at various towns. One of largest earthquakes to hit Turkey in more than a century, caused vibrations throughout the area.
