G20 delegates visit Tamil Nadu’s iconic Mahabalipuram town; receive traditional welcome on arrival

G20 delegates who are in Chennai for the meeting of Education Working Group visited Mahabalipuram on February 01. Sitting on the coromandel coast by the Bay of Bengal, the town of Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram as it is called by the locals, boasts of some of the most iconic historical sites built by the Pallava dynasty. The delegates were welcomed in a traditional way with Chendamelam. Delegates visited all the structures here- Pancha Rathas, Shore Temple, Arjuna’s Penance. They took selfies and even danced with the folk artists in Pancha Rathas Temple. Arjuna's Penance, an open air rock relief which is one of the largest in the world. They also took a tour to Shore Temple which was built during the 7th century by Pallava dynasty.
