China plans new railway line near LAC, experts say "concern" for India
Amid tensions at LAC, China is planning to ramp up border infrastructure. China is reportedly set to start construction of a new railway line near LAC. According to the TAR report, the new rail line will operate near LAC and through the disputed Aksai Chin region. The first section from Shigatse to Pakhuktso is anticipated to be completed by 2025. The remaining line section concluding at Hotan is expected to be completed by 2035. The proposed rail line will run northwest along the Nepal border before piercing north via Aksai Chin and ending at Hotan, Xinjiang. According to security analyst Praful Bakshi, the strategic project which helps China to mobilize its Army. However, India is not behind China to strengthen its infrastructure along LAC. Notably, the cabinet approved the induction of 9,000 more ITBP troops for China border. Ex-Commodore SP Singh said that Government of India is very much serious and concerned. The Centre has also cleared the construction of ‘Shinkun La tunnel’ to facilitate all-weather connectivity to the border areas of Ladakh. The tunnel being built at a cost of Rs 1,681 crore will be completed by December 2025. Shinkun La tunnel will help Indian Army to deploy troops and military hardware to the Line of Actual Control.
