RS Polls: A timeline of the high stakes battle between Ajay Maken and Kartikeya Sharma
Chandigarh: In a high-voltage drama in Haryana Rajya Sabha Polls result, an independent candidate named Kartikeya Sharma defeated Congress leader Ajay Maken on June 11 by a ‘narrow margin’. Earlier, Congress shared the victory news on Twitter. However, the party had deleted the tweet after the recounting was called by the Election Commission.
The midnight drama started after Ajay Maken was declared as a winner when he was said to have 30 votes but later the party informed that one vote was cancelled and hence the number remained 29. Kartikeya Sharma got 28 votes, Krishan Lal Panwar 31 votes and Ajay Maken 29 in the elections. However, Kartikeya Sharma was declared the winner after some mathematics went wrong.Soon after the recounting concluded, Haryana Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra informed that Ajay Maken has lost the election by a ‘narrow margin’. Later, the celebrations started at the BJP Headquarters in which state Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was seen congratulating BJP-JJP backed independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma. Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi, who did cross-voting in Haryana, will be removed from the membership of CWC and later will be suspended from the party. A letter will also be written to the Speaker to get his Membership cancelled from Assembly in this regard. Kuldeep Bishnoi took an indirect dig at Ajay Maken and tweeted, “I have the ability to crush the fun, Do not leave the forest because of the fear of snakes.”
