Sufi saint disciples, folk artists perform traditional dance form ‘Dambali’ in Kashmir

Pulwama : Members of Baba Shakoor Dambali Centre organised a traditional dance event at the shrine of famous Sufi saint Abdul Wahab Khar (RA) in the Khrew area of the Pulwama district in J&K. The Event was sponsored by Delhi’s Sangeet Natak Akademi. Men dressed in traditional attires were seen dancing to the drum beats with full joy and enthusiasm. Hundreds of people watched the traditional dance ‘Dambali’. ‘Dambali’ is a dance form performed by the followers of Sufi saints to mark the festival. The dance was more famously known as Dervish dances which later came to be known as Kashmir’s Dambali Dance. Sufism has been guiding the life of Kashmiris for nearly 700 years. Even today the teachings of Sufi saints reverberate in every nook and corner of the valley and continue to inspire people to live in peace and harmony.
