Udupi hijab row: We are awaiting directions from Karnataka HC, says State CM
New Delhi: Amid the Udupi hijab row, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on February 08 stated that the matter is in the High Court and the State Government are awaiting directions from the court. “We are awaiting directions from Karnataka HC. I appeal to students to maintain peace & harmony. I have directed school administration to see there're no clashes b/w students. Appeal to all concerned persons from outside not to make provocative statements,” said CM Bommai. The hijab protests began in January 2022 at the Government Girls PU College in Udupi when six students alleged that they had been barred from classes for insisting on wearing the headscarf.
