Dreams of becoming PM made Nitish betray people's mandate, claims former Bihar Dy CM

Patna (Bihar): Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Tarkishore Prasad on Thursday alleged that Nitish Kumar's "dreams of becoming the prime minister" made him "betray the mandate of the people" and joins hands with the RJD. Prasad, who was the number two in the BJP-JD(U) government, took on Nitish Kumar a day after the JD(U) leader was sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister again with support from RJD and Congress. "Day before yesterday, he (Bihar CM Nitish Kumar) accused BJP of attempting to break the JD(U) and he went quiet on the matter of corruption as if Lalu Prasad Yadav's family's corruption cases are now closed and they have become clean. But the issues still exist and the action is underway," Prasad said. "Whenever he dreams of becoming the Prime Minister, he says things like this because his desire inspires him to betray the mandate of the people," the BJP leader said. On Wednesday, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi had claimed that Nitish Kumar wanted to become the Vice President and suggested that he was miffed with the BJP which chose Jagdeep Dhankhar for the position. Nitish Kumar dismissed the claim as "totally bogus". There has been speculation that Nitish Kumar is gearing up a larger role at the national level. However, the Chief Minister rejected any such speculations after being sworn in. "Those who came to power in 2014, will they be victorious in 2024? Mumbai: Amid the political turmoil in Bihar, Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar on August 11 commented on Opposition’s widespread speculation that Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was used by Bharatiya Janata Party to break their party.,“In a party, one must work while keeping all together. The public who votes you to power should be respected in a democracy. In Maharashtra, the public had voted for the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, not Shiv Sena with UPA. The public had voted Congress, and NCP out. If a politician voted out by the public comes into power, that is like disrespecting the voters,” he said.

"It does not make sense": Akshay Kumar reacts to boycott Raksha Bandhan, Laal Singh Chaddha trend

New Delhi : Bollywood has become a soft target for trollers. Boycotting Hindi films even before they have hit theatres is an increasingly recent trend. Recently, Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Raksha Bandhan' and Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha' Chaddha faced the boycott trend for one reason or another. Reacting to the ongoing boycott trend in India, Akshay during a promotional event in Kolkata urged people not to get involved in such activities. He said, "If you don't feel like watching the movie, then don't. It's a free country and the film is out there, so if someone wants to watch it or not, it's up to them. I would like to tell you, no matter which industry it is, be it the clothing industry, film industry or anything else, all of these help the economy. But doing things like boycotting movies, it doesn't make sense."A few days ago, Aamir also expressed his views about the ongoing Boycott trend in India. "That Boycott Bollywood... Boycott Aamir Khan... Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha... I feel sad also because a lot of people who are saying this in their hearts believe I am someone who doesn't like India... In their hearts they believe that... And that's quite untrue. I really love the country... That's how I am. It is rather unfortunate if some people feel that way. I want to assure everyone that it's not the case so please don't boycott my films, please watch my films," he had said. In 2015, Aamir Khan said in an interview, "Our country is very tolerant, but there are people who spread ill-will". His wife Kiran Rao also made headlines for saying that she considered leaving the country for the safety of their children. Reacting to the particular interview, Twitter users have been putting up posts using hashtags such as #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha and #Boycottaamirkhan. The trolls also dug up when Aamir met Turkey's First Lady Emine Erdogan while he was shooting for Laal Singh Chaddha there. Netizens were unhappy with the meeting as it happened in the backdrop of Turkey's increasing anti-India and pro-Pakistan stand. Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan will clash at the box office on August 11.

Netizens were unhappy with the meeting as happened in the backdrop of Turkey's increasing anti-India and pro-Pakistan stand. The recent social media trends have got Aamir worried that he had to request people to watch his film."That Boycott Bollywood... Boycott Aamir Khan... Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha... I feel sad also because a lot of people who are saying this in their hearts believe I am someone who doesn't like India... In their hearts, they believe that... And that's quite untrue. "Zero at grassroot level, hero in distributing revdis": BJP slams AAP over 'freebies culture'

New Delhi : Launching a sharp verbal attack against the Aam Aadmi Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said that those who have done zero development at the grassroots level, now want to become heroes by distributing freebies ('revdis'). "Just now a press conference was done by Arvind Kejriwal ji. I will respond to his allegations. Firstly, you all must know that the people of the whole of India are saying that those who are zeroes at the grassroot level want to become heroes by distributing 'revdis'," said BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia. Bhatia further questioned the AAP government's Delhi model of education. He said, "Arvind Kejriwal promised that he will give 500 new schools. But he is far from opening 500 new schools, and adding to that 16 schools were closed in Delhi. RTI shows that with 16 schools closed and 745 schools are running without a principal." Lashing out at the Centre for disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the country, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded the central government to provide good free education, healthcare, 300 units of electricity and unemployment allowance for people in the country. "An atmosphere is being created that giving free education, free electricity and free water is a crime. They (BJP) waived off debt worth Rs 10 lakh crore of some people. It is being said amongst people that some of them are their friends. No one is talking about it," said Kejriwal. Kejriwal said, "As we celebrate 75 years of Independence, I demand the Central government to provide good free education, healthcare, 300 units of electricity and unemployment allowance in the country. Those who call it 'Revdi' are traitors of the country." In July this year, the Prime Minister had said, "This 'Revdi' culture (or the freebies culture) is dangerous for the development of the country. Those with Revdi culture will never build new expressways, new airports or defence corridors for you. Together, we have to defeat this mentality, remove Revdi culture from the politics of the country." Responding to this, Kejriwal addressed a rally in Gujarat on Sunday and said, "These people abuse me saying that 'Kejriwal is looting money, distributing free revdis'. Kejriwal is not going to Swiss banks with money, he is not wasting public money on the public." In a sharp attack against its opponents, Kejriwal on Sunday said that Gujarat Congress will soon merge with the Gujarat BJP unit as they have "love brewing" between them. "The election of Gujarat will be between AAP and BJP. Gujarat Congress is going to merge with Gujarat BJP. (I love you) ILU-ILU of BJP-Congress will end. On one hand, there is "27 years of misrule" of the BJP and on the other hand, there is "new politics" of AAP," Kejriwal said while addressing a press conference on Sunday. Keeping the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections in mind, Kejriwal on Sunday made a bunch of promises for the people of Gujarat ranging from providing a free electricity supply to improving the healthcare services in the state. The Aam Aadmi Party leader claimed that about 25 lakh households in Punjab have just recently got electricity bills of zero rupees and many of the people residing in Delhi are also privileged for the same. Notably, AAP is in power both in Punjab and Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal was on a two-day visit to Gujarat from Saturday as part of his campaign ahead of the Assembly polls likely to be held in December this year.

Experts warn about high risk of COVID-19 transmission during festivals

New Delhi : As COVID-19 cases continue to escalate in the country, experts have warned that there is a high risk of contracting and spreading infections ahead of the festive season. Amid a rise in coronavirus infections in some parts of the country, the central government has asked Delhi and six states to ensure adequate testing, promote Covid-appropriate behaviour and increase the pace of vaccination to contain the surge. In a letter to Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said upcoming festivals and mass congregations in different parts of the country may potentially facilitate transmission of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. According to Dr Sushila Kataria, senior Director of Internal Medicine at Medanta Hospital, he said, "During the monsoon season and the upcoming festival season, there is a high risk of contracting and spreading infections. Food and water-borne infections, as well as respiratory tract infections, are highly possible." She further said people should follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and avoid large gatherings. "COVID-19 cases have recently increased as well. As a result, it is advised that people act responsibly while celebrating the festivals. People should avoid large gatherings and celebrate with their families. Even if someone is having a gathering, there should be enough space for everyone to maintain social distance, and the room should be ventilated or else the celebrations should be held outdoors.""In addition, those invited for celebrations should be immunised against COVID-19. Those who have not yet taken their booster dose should do so. Since monsoon season is going on, the chances of getting a viral infection like cold, cough etc is higher. Keeping that in mind, people should maintain hygiene, make sure that their food is freshly cooked and not left out for an extended period of time. People, particularly children, should avoid eating junk food and street food," she said. She added, "Furthermore, maintaining hand hygiene is critical, as is keeping a safe distance between people, avoiding overcrowded areas, and wearing a mask when going outside." Dr Rajiv Dang, a senior Director and Head of the Department (HOD) - Internal Medicine and Medical Director, Max hospital, Gurugram also expressed his concerns. "It's a time for all of us to celebrate festivals, which does bring the best out from all of us. But let us not forget that amongst this festivity, the health component should not get affected. We are not out of the COVID-19 pandemic yet. We are seeing patients almost on a daily basis, but they are certainly much milder in severity. They are not requiring medication, but they do require isolation," said Dr Rajiv Dang. Dr Dang further said all precautions should be taken to enjoy the season. He said, "All the precautions that we require to help ourselves in the family should include acts of avoiding crowded places, taking precaution in the form of maintaining proper hand hygiene, proper distance maintenance, and proper use of mask trying to avoid mass lunches and dinners and such kind of activities. It is suggested that we should avoid all that and we save and enjoy the season with its best spirits." On August 6, the Union Health Ministry informed that Delhi has contributed 8.2 per cent of India's weekly new cases in the week ending August 5 and has also recorded 1.86 times increase in average daily new cases from 802 in the week ending July 29 to 1,492 in in the week ending August 5. An increase in the weekly positivity rate was also reported in Delhi -- from 5.90 per cent in the week ending July 29 to 9.86 per cent in the week ending August 5. The Health Ministry said Kerala reported 2,347 average cases per day in the past month and Maharashtra with 2,135 cases. The Centre also cited the district-wise spread of infection.

Members across political divide are rivals, not enemies: Venkaiah Naidu at farewell in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi : Urging members to maintain decency, dignity and decorum so that the image and respect of the House is maintained, outgoing Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said on Monday that members across political divide were not enemies but rivals and they must work hard to outshine each other like competitors but not to run down each other. In his remarks at the farewell in the Rajya Sabha where members cutting across party lines praised his handling of the House, Naidu said he will be moving around and talking to people on larger issues. Naidu said he had tears in his eyes after his name was decided as Vice Presidential nominee of the ruling NDA as he had to leave the BJP. "On the day, when I was selected to be the Vice-President of India and when the Prime Minister and the then President of the Party, to which I belong, told me in the Parliamentary Board meeting that I was being selected, I was in tears. I did not ask for this. But you know, as a disciplined soldier of the party and as the party had given the mandate, I obliged, and I resigned from the party," he said. "There were tears not because of my shirking the responsibility but because I had to leave the party which had given me all this. That was the occasion. Otherwise, there was no problem at all. I did my best to maintain the dignity of the House and I tried to accommodate all sides -- South, North, East, West and North-East. I tried to give opportunity to all sides of the House. I might not have given them enough time that they wanted but each one of you have been given time, whether it is Zero Hour or Special Mentions or Question Hour or discussion and debates on the Bills," he said. He said people want the House to discuss, debate and decide. "They do not want the other D, that is, disrupt. Members always say, 'Please do not pass the Bill in the din'. I do agree. For that, simple solution is that do not create din and do not pass the Bill in the din. This is my advice to all and also for the future because whoever is going to occupy the Chair will have to follow the precedents and go by the decisions taken earlier," Naidu said. He said India is world's largest parliamentary democracy and the members of the upper House of Parliament have a greater responsibility in the legislative structure. "The entire world is watching India. India is on the rise. India is on the move. I appeal to the members of the Rajya Sabha and to those who are going to come to this House in future, to maintain decency, dignity and decorum so that the image and respect of the House is maintained and people will be receptive to show us, to hear us and also to follow our advice," he said. Noting that people watch proceedings of the House, Naidu said sometimes he has had act strictly to maintain decorum but he was not happy naming members. "It gives me no enjoyment to take such extreme action. I have no ill-will against anybody or any party." Naidu said he will later speak regarding normal feeling about politicians and all. "I don't want to utilize this forum. The respect is declining everywhere because value systems are declining." He said members should follow the democratic principles and the standards set by great leaders. "I am not of that type as people often talk, either it is precedent, or dissident and, otherwise, resident. I am not going to do this. I never asked for precedent, never became a dissident or never confined to residence. I will be moving around -- going around, meeting, greeting and talking to you all on larger issues. I will not get into politics, as I told you. We are all working in our own ways. We are not enemies; we are rivals." "We must work hard to outshine each other like competitors but not to run down each other. This is my last advice to all of you. My wish is, Parliament functions well," he added. He said there are many members who are very good speakers when given opportunities. "I see even the new Members coming prepared and making great contribution. Brilliant speeches are made. Sometimes, brilliance is lost because of disturbances." He said that media does not adequately report constructive debates. "Unfortunately, in our country, the weakness is that the media also does not report if you speak constructively. If you speak obstructively and do something unusual, it gets coverage. It is weakness of the media, and media should get out of it at the earliest without trying to give some reasons here and there." Noting that the issue of language is quite dear to him, Naidu said he was happy that the President, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice are speaking in not the same language "but in the same vein on respecting our respective mother tongues". "First mother tongue, afterwards brother tongue or any other tongue, no problem. But, primacy should be given to mother tongue. Please encourage mother tongue in your respective areas. I would like to see in my lifetime that the Parliament, the Assemblies and also the school, college, university, vocational courses and also the administration, everything should be carried in their respective state official languages and there can be translation," he said. "There should be translation. I told the Secretariat and I am telling you all today, before I leave, there has to be a permanent mechanism. I will come to sign that file on (August) 10th morning. I told them whether the House is there or not that for all speeches, translation should be made available, not at request even otherwise also. That is the process that has to start," he added. Delhi HC seeks response of Union Minister Smriti Irani on pleas by tech giants

New Delhi : The Delhi High court on Monday sought the response of Union Minister Smriti Irani on pleas by tech giants Google and Twitter seeking that they be provided with the links to objectionable content against the senior BJP leader that needed to be removed. The tech giants requested that they were not an adjudicating body and would be prompt in removing objectionable content if the URL links were made available to them. Justice Mini Pushkarna sought a response from Smriti Irani on the pleas within two weeks. Justice Pushkarna in an order passed last month had directed the Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera and Netta D'Souza to delete and remove their objectionable social media posts against Irani. The court had further directed Google, Twitter and Meta, which owns Facebook, to remove such content "or anything similar thereto" from their platforms. In their application seeking modification of the earlier order, the tech giants said that they need specific links to remove and the ones, which were available, have been removed. The plea said that a sword of contempt hangs on them as they were directed to remove the objectionable content, in case the three leaders failed to do so in a week. The court issued notice of the plea and granted two weeks to Irani to respond. "We are intermediaries. What we require is that plaintiffs may give URLs, we will take them off. If we have doubts, we can inform the plaintiff and the plaintiff can then approach the court. We are not an adjudicating body. We cannot decide what's similar. Plaintiff is under obligation to give me links," the pleas said. It is pertinent to mention Union Minister Irani had recently moved the Delhi High court against Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and others for alleged defamatory allegations against her daughter. The BJP leader has also sought damages of more than Rs 2 crores. The Bench not only issued the notice on the petition but also criticised the defendants for making allegations without any basis or substance against her daughter.

Rijiju attacks Sibal over his comment on judiciary, AIBA terms it 'contemptuous'

New Delhi: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday slammed former union minister Kapil Sibal over his controversial comment on the Supreme Court and the judiciary. While talking to ANI, Rijiju said, "Statement made by Kapil Sibal is in line with his existing mindset. For Congress and like-minded people, Courts/constitutional authorities must favour them or work as per their interest, or else they start attacking constitutional authorities themselves." "It is sad that prominent leaders and parties are criticising constitutional authorities & agencies. These agencies are absolutely autonomous," the Law Minister added. Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and senior advocate, Kapil Sibal, in an event, had expressed his displeasure over some of the recent judgements passed by the Supreme Court saying he has "no hope left" in the institution. "If you think you will get relief from Supreme Court, you are hugely mistaken. And I am saying this after completing 50 years of practising in the Supreme Court," Sibal said. His remarks, however, triggered a furore. Criticising Senior Advocate Sibal's statements, All India Bar Association Chairman Adish Aggarwala told ANI that Kapil Sibal lamenting that he has lost hope in the Indian judiciary is "contemptuous". "Court decides cases by applying facts presented before them, they hold allegiance to the constitution of India. He's a senior and seasoned advocate," AIBA Chairman added. While, Delhi-based two lawyers Vineet Jindal and Shashank Shekhar Jha have written letters to Attorney General of India KK Venugopal, seeking his approval for a contempt case against Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal for his recent controversial remark against the Supreme Court of India. Advocate Vineet Jindal on Monday filed a request letter to the Attorney General for consent to proceeding with Criminal Contempt of Court against Congress Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, allegedly "for scandalizing the Indian Judiciary & disgracing its dignity." Jindal stated that statements Kapil Sibal's statements have directly made allegations with the intent to disgrace and scandalize the sitting judges of the Supreme Court of India. The statements by Kapil Sibal have scandalized the judgments passed by the Supreme Court judges and accused them of being corrupt. If this kind of precedent were allowed, political leaders would start making reckless allegations against the judges of the highest Court of our country and this trend would soon lead to the failure of an independent judiciary system. Through his statement, he has dishonoured the Judges of the Supreme court who are the guardians of the whole legal system and disgraced and jeopardized the integrity of the entire judicial system. This kind of statement would affect the masses by growing a sense of mistrust and concern among the public about the fall in the standards of the judicial system. Jindal through its letter seeks consent under section 15 (1) (b) of the contempt of courts Act 1971, read with rule 3 of the rules to regulate the procedure for the contempt of the Supreme court 1975 to initiate criminal contempt against Kapil Sibal. However Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha in its application sent to Attorney General, stated that Senior Kapil Sibal has categorically insulted the Supreme Court, the Judges of the Supreme Court, undermining the authority of the Supreme Court as well as labelling serious charges against the Chief Justice of Indian and other Justices of the Supreme Court. Advocate Shekhar, in his speech, Kapil Sibal raised doubt on the independence of the Supreme Court and undermined the dignity with a malafide intention to malign the image of the Supreme Court. Kindly grant me permission to bring a contempt petition against the Contemnor u/s 15(1)(b) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 r/w Rule 3 of the Rules to Regulate Proceedings for Contempt of the Supreme Court, 1975, stated the plea moved by Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha.

Cong trying to save face by accusing BJP of toppling govt: Arjun Munda

Union minister Arjun Munda on Monday slammed Congress leaders for claiming that the BJP was trying to destabilise the Jharkhand government and said that a huge amount of cash had been recovered from three MLAs of the party and instead of answering questions it was levelling charges in a bid to protect its image. Jharkhand Congress leaders had alleged that the BJP had tried to destabilise the state government following the seizure of cash from three MLAs in West Bengal. Munda, however, claimed that such incidents only "exposed" the Congress. Jharkhand Congress MLA from Bermo Kumar Jaimangal on Sunday alleged that BJP was trying to topple the JMM-Cong coalition government in Jharkhand and claimed that Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a major role to play in it. Jaimangal wrote a complaint against three Congress MLAs nabbed in West Bengal's Howrah with a huge amount of cash. He alleged that the trio had invited him to Kolkata for a visit further to Guwahati to meet Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. Jaimangal claimed he would have been promised a ministerial berth and cash worth crores for helping bring down the JMM-Congress government in the tribal-dominated state. Reacting to Jaimangal's allegation, Munda said, "These allegations make no sense. He is just trying to protect himself. Congress's true self has come to light and to save its image in front of the country they are making such allegations. The people now have come to know about the kind of politics that Congress did all these years." "There is no doubt that money in large quantity has been recovered from Congress MLAs. Where did this money come from? How did it come? Why did it come? Only those investigating the matter will be able to tell better. Money has been recovered from them and it is the reality of the MLAs. To get such a huge amount from such a large number, it definitely raises questions," the Union minister added. Speaking on Operation Lotus allegation of levelled by the Opposition, the Union minister said, "These people, who made the allegation of Operation Lotus, why were they going to Kolkata? Now the people of Congress should ask their MLAs what they were doing, instead they are accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is absolutely wrong. It has been their character to make baseless allegations. What is their intention behind this allegation? Their intention is to protect their image and defame BJP by accusing it." According to him, the idea behind creating Jharkhand as a state has failed."The kind of instances that are happening in Jharkhand, I would say that the objective behind the creation of Jharkhand is completely deviating from that objective. Yes, it is everyone's dream and that dream is being trampled upon." Three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand were detained in West Bengal's Howrah district on Saturday evening after a huge amount of cash was found in their vehicle, police said. The SUV in which MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap and Naman Bixal Kongari were travelling was intercepted on National Highway-16 at Ranihati in the Panchla police station area. The relatives of Congress MLA Irfan Ansari rebutted allegations that BJP is trying to destabilize the JMM-Cong coalition government in Jharkhand, making the surprising statement, "the government cannot be brought down with just a meagre sum of Rs 40-50 lakh." The Congress party on Sunday suspended three MLAs, who were held with a huge amount of cash in West Bengal on Saturday, with immediate effect. Addressing a press conference today, the general secretary and party in-charge of Jharkhand Congress, Avinash Pande said, "The three MLAs, who were held with a mountain of cash yesterday, have been suspended from the party with immediate effect. "Congress alleged that BJP attempted to destabilize the state government following the seizure of cash from three MLAs, BJP slammed the Congress for their allegations. Talking to ANI, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said "Whenever Congress or leaders from the Jharkhand government land up in any difficulty they immediately start using the word 'destabilization' like Pakistan's government use Kashmir word. But they cannot escape by blaming BJP." Notably, JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha)-Congress alliance is in power in Jharkhand and BJP is in Opposition.

CWG: Anurag Thakur lauds PM Modi for constantly encouraging sportspersons

New Delhi : Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur on Saturday congratulated all the sportspersons who bagged medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for constantly encouraging the sportspersons of the country. In an exclusive conversation with media on Saturday evening, Thakur said, "I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all weightlifters, especially to Mirabai Chanu on winning gold for India and setting new records." He said, "Prime Minister is a sports lover and a promoter of Sports. And that is why, Prime Minister Modi before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games spoke to the players and ecouraged them. Even during the recently held Tokyo Olympics, he did speak to them virtually (prior to the commencement of the event) and when they (sportspersons) came back, he hosted them virtually. That clearly shows that no other leader interacts as much with players as PM Modi does." "Chanu's performance can be estimated from the fact that between her and silver medallist (Marie Ranaivosoa of Mauritius), the difference was a huge 29 kilograms. She was far ahead of her closest competitor. We feel proud of her achievements and extend heartfelt congratulations to her," the Union Minister added. "It is indeed a great achievement and a big day for India. I would also like to congratulate Saket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary as well. Sanket performed very well despite having an injury. Congratulations to them as well," said Thakur. Mirabai Chanu, one of India's top gold medal prospects, lived up to expectations by clinching the first gold medal for the country at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 in the women's 49kg weightlifting final. Chanu, who had won the gold four years ago in Gold Coast, not only defended her title successfully by lifting 201kgs (88kg in snatch and 113kg in clean and jerk) but set a Games record. The Gold medalist's mother Tombi Devi narrated her restlessness prevailing a night before the competition revealing that she (mother) could not sleep. "Since yesterday I have been offering prayers for her and finding myself restless, I couldn't sleep. I had apprehensions about whether she will win or not, as she was sick. The mother said that she had teary eyes when she saw her daughter Mirabai win Gold at the CWG. "I feel so happy. She won gold medal at CWG 2022. I had cried in my heart after her victory. Union Min Kishan Reddy urges people of Telangana to install solar panels at home to generate power

Hyderabad (Telangana): After Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the National Solar rooftop portal while participating in the grand finale marking the culmination of 'Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya - Power @2047' on Saturday, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy urged the people of Telangana to use solar panels to generate power at home. The Minister further said that the government will buy power from people who generate it using solar panels, which would fetch people money. "PM Modi has inaugurated the solar power projects under NTPC projects by giving Rs 500 crores to Telangana. Solar panels on the water are the biggest project started in Telangana. I want to thank PM Modi for inaugurating such a huge project on behalf of the farmers and people of Telangana," he said while speaking to media. The Minister appealed to the people of the state to make India a "power country"."A new app is also inaugurated to generate power through solar energy on the rooftop of houses. I request people to use solar panels to generate power at home. If you produce more solar, the government will buy and you will get money, 40 per cent subsidy will also be given because in the country along with food, clothes and house, the current (electricity) has also become important. So everyone should try to generate power through solar and make India a power country," Reddy said. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that the energy sector will play a huge role in accelerating India's progress over the next 25 years, and urged states and union territories to clear their pending power dues as soon as possible. The prime minister wondered that if the common man could pay his electricity dues regularly, why was it that some states failed in paying theirs? The Prime Minister informed that in the last 8 years, about 1,70,000 MW of electricity generation capacity has been added in the country. One Nation One Power Grid has become the strength of the country today. About 1,70,000 circuit kilometre transmission lines have been laid to connect the entire country. Furthermore, by giving 3 crore connections under the Saubhagya Scheme, we are also nearing the saturation goal, he added. "We had resolved to create 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by the completion of 75 years of independence. Today we have come close to this goal. So far, about 170 GW capacity has been installed from non-fossil sources," PM Modi said.

'Dalit Bandhu scheme' not to empower Dalits but TRS: Congress leader slams Telangana govt

Hyderabad (Telangana): Congress leader Mallu Ravi on Saturday slammed the Telangana government's 'Dalit Bandhu Scheme' and alleged that the programme is not for their upliftment but for the empowerment of TRS. The state government had launched the scheme aiming to empower the Dalit community and pull them out of poverty. However, the scheme had attracted criticism from the Opposition. "Under the name of Dalita Bandhu, TRS party is cheating the Dalits. TRS MLA in a meeting openly said that they will give Dalits Bandhu scheme's money of Rs 10 lakhs to those who are voting to the TRS party and he said Dalits are not having a sense of what is happening around," former MP Mallu Ravi said. "Firstly they are only giving Dalit Bandhu to TRS party supporters and also people related to MLA, ZPTC, MPTC, MPP's of TRS party". It is not Dalits Bandhu but TRS party Bandhu. It is not the empowerment of Dalits, but of TRS," Ravi alleged. The Congress leader further said that the scheme has been launched only to seek the votes of the Dalit community. "They are promoting the scheme only to get the votes of Dalits. The Congress party created reservations for SCs in education and political fields. To write the Constitution, Congress selected BR Ambedkar as chairman of the drafting committee. I am a Dalit and because of the Congress party, I was able to study and able to do all things freely in society," he said. Notably, according to the government, the Dalit Bandhu Scheme is aimed to empower the Dalit community and to lift them out of poverty. The scheme was designed to give the Dalit Community employment, self-respect and development as it is an effective policy.

Kumaraswamy slams CM Bommai over recent killings in Karnataka

Bengaluru (Karnataka) : After a 23-year-old man was hacked to death on the outskirts of Mangaluru, days after a youth BJP worker was killed at Bellare in Dakshina Kannada, former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday condemned the spate of killings and said that the government has "destroyed" the state which is a "garden of peace". In a series of tweets referred to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the former chief minister said, "An incompetent, helpless @BJP4Karnataka government that is unable to protect not only the people of the country but also its workers, the Praveen Nettaru murder case has been handed over to the NIA for investigation. However, the NIA is reluctant to investigate all the killings on the coast! Why?" "The government has information about every murder along the coast. It is also known that those murders are happening. However, the 'double engine government' is playing a double game. The @bjp party which claims to be the biggest political party in the world is too weak to guarantee the lives of the youth who brought it to power," he added. Kumaraswamy further questioned Bommai if he took any action for "peace of mind". "What was the message given to the people in Mangalore by the brave Chief Minister @BSBommai who handed over Praveen's murder case to NIA investigation? Did the words "keep the peace" come to their tongues at least once? Didn't come!! Did you take action for peace of mind? Not even that. They added more ghee to the violence," he tweeted.Hitting out at the Chief Minister for handing over the case to NIA for investigation, Kumaraswamy said that he "does not trust" the police system. "How many cases investigated by NIA have a logical conclusion? There is none. What was the message given by the Chief Minister to the state police who were proceeding with the investigation after handing over to NIA? He who was the home minister himself, after becoming the CM, he does not trust the police system under him!! Isn't this ironic," he tweeted. "Are there no efficient police officers in the state? If loyal and honest officers are given free rein, they can root out coastal violence. @BJP4Karnataka Government does not want it. The drama of entrusting the NIA without trusting the competent authorities is going to build a 'tomb' for the investigation of the massacres," he added. Calling the state "garden of peace for all races", the JDS leader said that the Chief Minister has "destroyed" it. "Karnataka is a garden of peace for all races. You have destroyed it. Your empire, which is built under the head of the poisonous snake called violence, will surely fall prey to violence. The outrage of the same activists will write the epic poem for the pleasure of power on the heads of the activists. Coastal upset, Karnataka to be upset," he tweeted.
